Why is the news important to me? What did I learn this week?

This week I learnt about the shootings in Christchurch in New Zealand. What happened there made me feel sad and worried about people who have guns. I would prefer it if nobody had guns, I don't like people hurting each other.  I am pleased the New Zealand prime minister is making it harder for people to own them. My dad says New Zealand is a really beautiful country, he was born there. I would like to go one day and see it.

I liked finding out about recycling for Global Recycling Day. Why do you think recycling is important ? Everybody needs to recycle so we don't produce more new materials like plastic which are really really bad for the environment. Lately a whale died when he washed up on the Philippienes beach because he had 40kg of plastic in its stomach. That's really sad, I feel so sorry for the poor whale. It must have been horrible to eat all that plastic and must have given him tummy ache.  Did you know (thanks Mikey for telling me!) that there is more plastic in the sea than there are stars in the galaxy. That's amazing and horrible too.  WE HAVE TO STOP THIS ! Its really bad that all the sea animals are dying because because Leo Hendrick Baekeland invented plastic! I so wish he hadn’t invented it !

Overall I thought the news this week was very sad. Climate change is worrying and it's bad that so many people in Africa are being hurt by floods because of the crazy weather.  But I am happy that people like Greta are trying to do something about it.  I'm pleased people are trying to change our world for the better. It's hard for children to do much, but Greta is young and she's doing lots of things to help. She sounds amazing, I'd like to meet her one day.
