Why is the news important to me? What did I learn this week?

This week I learnt that the colour TV first went on sale 65 years ago! I can’t even imagine life without a colour TV - I would never survive! I am flying to the UK today and I love all the entertaining things on the plane like the colour TV. My mum told me that in the olden days people didn’t have screens behind each seat on a plane – I would hate flying without in-flight entertainment systems!

This week it was also Shakespeare Week.  I enjoyed reading two of Shakespeare’s plays  – I only read a version adapted for children.  When my mum showed me an original version, I found it hard to understand what some of the words meant. I can’t believe that he wrote more than 150 poems and 40 plays! I think Shakespeare’s plays and poems were entertainment for people in his time because I think they didn’t have colour TV’s so the plays and poems were their only entertainment.

Happy Birthday from the Newzkidz to the Eiffel Tower! This week I learnt that when it was built it measured 312 metres and was the tallest building in the world at the time it was made.  I can’t believe that it held the record for 40 years.  I live quite near the tallest building in the world now – the Burj Khalifa which is 828 metres tall!
