29th October Blog: my week in the news

Why is the news important to me? What did I learn this week?

This week there were various types of news stories. One of the stories was one of the saddest stories that I have ever heard! It was about 39 people who died in a refrigerated lorry on their way to the UK – the deaths were discovered when the lorry stopped in Essex. I think it is so sad that these people just wanted a better life and they had to put their lives at stake. I really hope that those responsible are brought to justice!

This was also the end of British Summer Time so it means that we now have a four hour difference between Dubai and the UK. That means that it is going to be a little bit trickier to speak to family and friends in the UK.

Finally we cannot go more than a few days without speaking about Brexit. I really thought that Boris Johnson said do or die we will leave on the 31st of October that the UK would actually leave on the 31st of October. It turns out that we are not going to have a Haloween Brexit – the EU leaders have just agreed to a “flextension” and for the leaving date to be extended to 31 January 2020 unless a deal is approved by the UK Parliament before that date.
