24 June 2022 Blog: my week in the news

This week I learnt about the US Juneteenth holiday. Before today I didn’t know anything about slavery in the US and I felt quite shocked learning that this actually happened. I was also shocked to learn that even after slavery ended black people in the US faced a lot of discrimination and there was segregation on things like public transport.

I was glad that we covered World Refugee Day in our podcast this week. I think it’s very important to cover this. Imagine having to leave your home and everything you know and all your precious things and travelling in the way refugees have to. It reminded me of a really good book that I read a while ago called “The Boy at the Back of the Class” by Onjali Rauf. If you haven’t read it yet I really recommend you read it.
