Why is the news important to me? What did I learn this week?

This week we have covered some interesting news stories. Famous football player, Marcus Rashford, has been campaigning for a while for children to have free school meals in the holidays, in the UK. and the US election day is coming closer and closer each day.

When I heard that some children are being left hungry during the holidays, I was both shocked and disappointed at the UK government. I understand that the government has been giving support to these children and families during term time but the fact, a significant number of people are still being left hungry, tells me that they should have given more support to these children. I think this could all have been avoided if the government had given more money and support in the first place to the families of these children. However, I am happy to know that someone, who is not in government, has been thinking about the children and has been trying to make that country a better place to live in.

I am also excited that US elections are coming closer and closer and lots of people are voting early. Due to the pandemic, lots of people are voting by mail, which I think is a safe and good idea, as you can still vote and not have to leave your house. I don’t think Donald Trump is right to have concerns about postal votes being tampered with as I think, voting directly at the polling station can also still be tampered with.

My final piece of news is really very excited. The Newzkidz podcast has had over 25,000 downloads since we began. So, please keep listening to our podcast and spreading the word to your families and friends.
