Why is the news important to me? What did I learn this week?

I started to become interested in the news last year. I liked listening to the news stories on the radio in the car on the way to school, but sometimes my Mum would turn the radio off. She said the news wasn't always appropriate. Sometimes bad things happen that might make us scared or give us bad dreams. But I want to know what's going on. Dubai has lots of people from different countries all over the world. I'd like to know what's going on the countries where my friends are from.

I'm from England, and Mum and Dad talk a lot about Brexit. I'd like to know more about this, as i'm worried what will happen to England after 29th March. I know there are wars in the world too, and would like to know more about why people fight each other, and who is winning. I like to do the podcast so i can find out some of these answers and then tell you about them. Maybe you find it helpful. I think its important kids understand what happens in the world.

Sometimes stories make you think about interesting questions which are fun to discuss with your friends. Like, this week I asked my friends if they would want to go on holiday to space! They said no! That's because we talked about Space Tourism and the SpaceX launch.

I also realised I am lucky to live somewhere where we don't have tornadoes, as they are scary and dangerous. We have sandstorms here, but they are not too bad. Mostly the weather is hot and sunny.

It was good to learn about International Women's Day. I thought there should be an International Men's Day too? My mum says there is, on a different day. I like reading about famous women and the things they have achieved. I didn't know about Anne Frank before Zara talked about her on our podcast this week, so now I'm looking forward to reading her diary.
