Why is the news important to me? What did I learn this week?

I absolutely love television so you won’t be surprised to hear that my favourite news story this week was about the new Disney streaming service. I really hope that it will be available in the UAE soon- it won’t be available in America until November so I guess I will have to wait for quite a while.

I was amazed to hear that the President of the Seychelles made an underwater speech calling for better protection of the world’s oceans. It was also really interesting to learn that scientists are using satellites to take photographs of the world’s surface and are using these images to see if they can look for plastic.  It is such an important issue and I really think that we should all try to do whatever we can to help.  Rose and I had a good discussion on the use of plastic in toys and how we can recycle toys.

This week one of the stories was very sad – Notre Dame, one of the most famous cathedrals of the world, caught fire. I felt incredibly sad when I saw the images of it on fire. I have never even visited it and now I will never get a chance to see the original building. I was pleased to hear that the French President, Emmanuel Macron, has said that the cathedral will be rebuilt in five years.

Rose and I were so excited about being on the “Afternoons with Helen Farmer” show this week. We really enjoyed being in the studio with Helen Farmer and our headmistress, Mrs Woolley and telling everybody about NewzKidz. Rose’s dad had the great idea of us presenting the news stories as a podcast so we really hope lots of people are listening to us all over the world!
