Blog: my week in the news

Why is the news important to me? What did I learn this week?

This week was a very sad week. There were several explosions in churches and hotels in Sri Lanka. Hundreds of innocent people were killed and injured. Some of them were enjoying breakfast at nice hotels during their holidays. Some of them were attending church services for Easter Sunday. The attackers must have been very very cruel people. I felt very sad reading about the devastating events in Sri Lanka.

This week there was also an earthquake in the Philippines. I learnt that it was on the island of Luzon – I had only first heard about the island last week when I did a piece for NewzKidz on the remains of a new human species being found on the island of Luzon.

Rose and I had a good discussion about how we feel when we hear sad news. We both agreed that sometimes it is best not to talk to friends in case they have not heard about the sad news. I try and talk to my mum when I’m worried about news stories and I try and think about happy events. That is why I really enjoyed learning all about Queen Elizabeth’s two birthdays. I also really enjoyed hearing about the robot that could tidy a bedroom – now that is something that I would like to have!
