Why is the news important to me? What did I learn this week?

This week was an amazing week for the British royal family.  The Duke and Duchess of Sussex had a baby boy. The baby has been named Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor. Prince Harry and his wife have decided not to use a royal title for their son – I think that is odd because I think any child would like to have a royal title!

One of the news stories this week was about StartRocket's plans to project giant adverts in the night sky using cubesats.  I do not like this idea. I think it will ruin the beauty of the night sky. For example, if people go camping and want to lie down peacefully to look at the stars they won’t be able to without seeing a giant advert. That wouldn’t be very pleasant or peaceful!

Another one of the news stories was a worrying one.  It was about the publication of a report of on biodiversity by a research group within the United Nations.  I was shocked when I heard that around a million species now face extinction within decades!

This week was also the week that the British Chancellor, Philip Hammond, decided that the UK should not get rid of 1 pence and 2 pence coins. I am so pleased – I have a money box full of these and I think that sometimes it is nice not to change things!
