Why is the news important to me? What did I learn this week?

I am quite worried by both of our two main news stories this week, the spread of coronavirus and also Brexit. The virus is worrying because it seems to be going around the world very quickly and has now come to both the UK and Dubai. I'm worried so many people are falling sick and that some people are even dying. I really hope scientists can find a cure for it soon, scientists can do amazing things like fly people to the moon so i think this should be possible. Brexit is also worrying because of the transition period, and even though Brexit has now finally happened, still it seems that noone really knows what is going to happen!

However I really enjoyed our book review this week, on The Boy at the Back of the Class by Onjali Q. Rauf. It was such a good book, I loved reading it and I enjoyed our book club discussion last week. It really made me think about what it means to be a refugee. In our book club we all had to guess how many refugees there are in the world and we all got it wrong, nobody guessed nearly enough. The correct answer is 65 million!! It's so sad so many people have to run away from their home countries because of danger, and even more sad that other countries are not welcoming towards them, and people like Ahmet in the book end up separated from their families even though he is only 9 years old. I'm really happy Alexa helped him in the story and it has a happy ending. I hope all our news stories have happy endings too!
