20 January 2022 Blog: my week in the news

Happy new year! I’m really excited to be back reporting news for NewzKidz. A lot has happened since our last podcast including, sadly, another variant of the coronavirus. The good thing is that this variant seems to have milder symptoms for a lot of people but it is still worrying that the head of the WHO said that the pandemic is nowhere near over. I feel really sad and worried at the moment because life is not the same as it was before the pandemic or even before the winter holidays. Due to the rise in cases, we have lots of new restrictions at school like no PE lessons, no assemblies and no trips. I also now know quite a lot of people who have had covid and I didn’t before!

It was sad to hear about the tsunami that has hit Tonga.

I play a lot of tennis in my spare time so I found the Novak Djokovic story very interesting. I understand why he was not allowed to play in the Australian Open but why did the Australians not check his papers before he landed in Australia?
