Why is the news important to me? What did I learn this week?

This week was another week in lockdown. I am, unfortunately, getting used to lockdown now (it’s been that long!) but sometimes, I get quite upset and angry because of it. So, it was really nice to read some good news. It is fascinating that a news story about one man made the headlines. I am still shocked that a 99 year old, Captain Tom Moore, walked around his 25-metre garden 100 times and managed to raise such a huge sum of money! You would be forgiven for imagining a man his age just spending his time resting on his bed but he has managed to make such an amazing contribution to society.

It is amazing that NASA is launching its first manned mission in almost a decade. Did you know that the words cosmonaut and astronaut have the same meaning?   “Cosmonaut” is the Russian term and “astronaut” is the America term.

I was so pleased to hear that a vaccine might be available to protect us against the Coronavirus and that so many people are working hard to produce one or to find an antiviral drug to help. It would be absolutely amazing if scientists were successful in their efforts because then we would get out of lockdown and many lives could be saved.   I wish there was a way to make the vaccine quicker – like tomorrow! Let's hope that it does come out and Coronavirus ends soon. Until it does, we will be keeping you updated on Newzkidz along with lots of other news stories too.
