19 April 2021 Blog: my week in the news

The biggest news story of this past week was definitely about the funeral of Prince Philip, The Duke of Edinburgh. I watched the funeral on Saturday with my family. It was very beautiful and peaceful. I didn't know much about Prince Philip's life beforehand, but I was really interested hearing about all the amazing things he had done and the funny stories people told about meeting him. It feels very sad that the Queen is now on her own, it really is amazing that she and Prince Philip were married for 73 years! She was only 13 when she met him, I think they must have been very happy together.

The other news stories this week were also interesting, I couldn't believe it when i first heard about the giant ship that got stuck in the Suez Canal and caused such problems. It seems so silly that such things can happen even with all the technology that's available today. But it was good to hear how technology is making a positive difference with things like the PPE recycling. I often see discarded facemasks on the ground as rubbish which is a shame as it spoils the environment and might harm wildlife. If these masks and gowns can be recycled into more useful things, that's brilliant.
