Why is the news important to me? What did I learn this week?

This is my first blog since we broke for the summer holidays and I’m really excited to be back and to be presenting Season 2 of Newzkidz.  My summer holiday was amazing.  I spent the summer in New York, Orlando and London.  It is a good thing that I have been to New York as a few of the stories that we have covered recently were based in New York.

One of the news pieces this week was about the 18th anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks. During my trip to New York, we visited the 9/11 memorial and museum. It was so sad and I felt terrible that something like this could happen. We have covered quite a few terror attacks in our podcasts.  If you ever listen to one of them and get worried you should always tell an adult. Every time I get worried about things like this I always tell my mum and I try to remember that these things do not happen all the time and I try to think about all the exciting news stories instead.

The story I really enjoyed this week was about the discovery of a new planet beyond our solar system. It has been named K2-18B. I still think it should be called Planet Z as my name starts with a Z and so does Zeus’s and there are lots of other planets that have the same name as Greek and Roman gods like Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Neptune.

I enjoyed discussing with Rose whether we should all be reducing the amount of red meat that we eat  We should all do this as this will help the environment but I am a bit worried as I really do love red meat so I think it will be hard for me to not have red meat at all.  I think once a week is ok – after all red meat has iron and 9 year girls do need some iron.
