Why is the news important to me? What did I learn this week?

Happy New Year! Welcome back and I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and new year. I know I certainly did!  Lots has happened since we did our last podcast. As you all know I love news about the British royal family and one of the biggest news stories this new year has been about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, deciding to step back from being senior royals.  I was a bit shocked by the news but I do understand why they made their decision because the UK press has been very harsh towards Meghan. I also think that Meghan did not like life in the UK and misses America. I read that the last time a British Prince wanted to marry a divorced American, the royal family told the Prince, who by then had become King Edward VIII, that he could not continue to be King if he married her and so he ended up abdicating.  Prince Harry is obviously not abdicating but he is still wanting to play a smaller role in the royal family.

I did not like hearing about the bush fires in Australia.  It is very sad to think about all the homes that have been destroyed. It is crazy - here I am in the Dubai living in the desert but it is raining every day at the moment as they are cloud seeding and in Australia it is really hot (so hot that there are so many bush fires all over Australia) and I wonder whether they have thought about cloud seeding there?

Another sad story from our first podcast of the year was the US/Iran crisis. I did not enjoy learning about that at all. Why can’t everyone just be friends? Why does there have to be so much fighting between countries?
