12th November Blog: my week in the news

Why is the news important to me? What did I learn this week?

This week I was very interested to learn about the Queen deciding to stop wearing real fur! I don’t agree with people wearing fur and I don’t understand why they even have to wear fur! If you are cold you could just use clothing not made of fur to keep warm and not harm animals.

I was very surprised to learn that many things that we use or eat contain palm oil and now I have learnt of a way to check whether products contain sustainable palm oil – I am going to download the app called Giki.

Remembrance Day is always a very sad but important event. I still don’t understand how there have been so many wars since World War 1?

I want to end my blog though by thinking about a positive story. This week I learnt that it might actually be good to make mistakes. Scientists found out that if people get 85% correct and 15% wrong that means that things have been set at the correct level for the best learning. If things are too hard then people might be getting everything wrong and not learning anything new and if they are too easy then obviously nothing new is being learnt. That makes sense to me! When I’m learning I don’t enjoy it at all if questions are so difficult that I get everything wrong! If I get a few things wrong, then maybe I will remember the things I got wrong and get them correct next time!
