10 February Blog: my week in the news

Why is the news important to me? What did I learn this week?

This week has had, once again, some very interesting news. One of my favourite stories was about Christina Koch’s arrival back to earth. I cannot believe that she had been in space for 328 days! She has now set a record for the most time spent in space by a woman. She has basically spent a year in space! I would not have the commitment to do that although I expect it would be a lot of fun.  If I was Christina in space the first thing I would think about is my family and how much I miss them. Christina must have missed her family a lot too I imagine. I think that all astronauts are very brave to go into space.

Another interesting news story was about the Trump impeachment trial. The impeachment trial has finally ended. Donald Trump, as expected, has been cleared of all charges. I wonder if he will get re-elected?

One of the things that I enjoyed the most last week was meeting Onjali Rauf (the author of The Boy at the Back of the Class) who came to speak at the Emirates LitFest, an annual festival of literature held in Dubai.  She talked about how she was inspired to write books and she gave us top tips to be an excellent author. She said that we should always carry a scrap of paper and a pen so that we can write our ideas immediately anywhere. That is one of the tips that I am going to follow. As you know from this week’s podcast, Onjali talked about two books, The Boy at the Back of the Class and The Star Outside my Window. I have only just begun to read The Star Outside my Window and so far it has been very enjoyable. I cannot wait to review it!
